Build Mental Arithmetic Skills With Abacus.
A structured, practice-led mathematics program that helps students develop calculation fluency, concentration, visualization, and confidence through guided abacus learning.
Schools partner through institutional agreements with Classbit. Individual students enroll directly via Questobit Academy centres.
The Soroban Methodology: From Physical Tool to Mental Visualization
The Abacus program utilizes the traditional 17-rod Japanese Soroban. Rather than relying on abstract rote arithmetic, students learn to physically move beads representing units, tens, and hundreds. Over time, students develop the ability to mentally visualize the abacus in their mind’s eye, executing rapid multi-step calculations without pen or paper.
Rapid Mental Arithmetic
Train students to perform multi-digit addition, subtraction, and multiplication mentally without calculators, improving foundational numerical confidence.
Spatial Visualization
Guide children to mentally visualize the Soroban abacus bead movements, transitioning from physical manipulation to mental arithmetic imagery.
Focus & Cognitive Concentration
Structured speed-dictation rounds and multi-step arithmetic drills require sustained mental focus, strengthening classroom attention spans.
Accuracy Verification
Foster disciplined problem verification habits, significantly reducing careless computation mistakes across regular school mathematics exams.
How Guided Abacus Learning Progresses
Phase 1: Physical Soroban Tool Familiarization
Students learn the 17-rod Soroban instrument, bead values (upper 5-bead and lower 1-beads), and two-finger manipulation technique (thumb and index).
Phase 2: Fundamental Formulas (Friends of 5 & 10)
Mastering five-complement and ten-complement addition and subtraction formulas to solve complex numbers effortlessly.
Phase 3: Mental Imagery Transition (Anzan)
Students gently put aside the physical abacus and project the beads on an imaginary mental canvas to compute numbers at remarkable speeds.
Phase 4: Speed Drills & Competitive Benchmarks
Timed sprint worksheets, flashcard bead reading, and participation in international competitions such as IMMO (International Mental Mathematics Olympiad).
School Partnership vs. Individual Learning Centre
We provide tailored solutions depending on whether you represent a school institution or an individual family:

Parents can enroll children directly in Questobit Academy’s authorized learning centres. Small batch sizes, interactive curiosity-driven coaching, and weekend/evening flexibility.
Abacus Program Questions
What is the recommended grade level for the Abacus Program?
The program is specifically designed for students in Grades 1 through 8. At this stage, cognitive neuroplasticity for mental imagery and spatial calculation is at its peak.
Does Abacus interfere with regular school mathematics curricula?
No. Abacus directly reinforces regular mathematics by accelerating foundational arithmetic, allowing students to tackle word problems and algebra with greater numerical confidence.
Are cognitive and academic outcomes guaranteed for every student?
Outcomes represent program learning objectives developed through consistent practice. Speed and visualization improve progressively according to individual student engagement and practice frequency.
How is the program implemented in schools?
Through our Academic Excellence Program, Classbit integrates Abacus into the weekly timetable (1–2 periods/week), supplying trained instructors, student abacus tools, and graded workbooks.
Can an individual student enroll outside a school partnership?
Yes. Questobit Academy, Classbit's direct-to-student division, offers evening and weekend Abacus batches at authorized learning centres.
